Using My Voice for Change
Once An AdvocatE, Always An Advocate
January has been a busy month! I volunteered at the Seattle MLK Jr. Day celebration, rallied at Have A Heart for Kids Day, and testified at the House Bill 1747: Keeping Families Together hearing. Since I was a teen, I’ve been an advocate for low-income families. It hasn’t always been easy. There were times when I didn’t know what to say or if I was being heard. However, I knew by showing up I would become better at speaking and sharing my message.
Six months ago, I was crowned USA Ambassador Ms. 2021. I made the promise I would use my platform to help children and families impacted by the foster care system. I am proud I have kept my word. Recently, I wrote an op-ed, HB 1747 Offers A Pathway to Keeping Families Together for the South Seattle Emerald. I’m grateful to those who provided input to the article. It really goes to show it takes community to uplift families in their time of need.
