Protecting Our Children
In 2019, I had the opportunity to speak at the Montana Prevent Child Abuse and Neglect Conference. Holly, a state employee, accompanied me during a lunch break. When we drove back to the hotel, we passed by the state capitol lawn which was filled with hundreds of shiny blue pin wheels. I asked her “What are those for?” She told me every April they planted the pinwheels for Child Abuse Prevention Month. These pinwheels represent the idea that all children are entitled to a safe childhood. I hadn’t heard of it before but it really touched my heart.
As we know, child abuse can be damaging to a child’s physical and emotional safety. It can have a profound effect on their development and ability to connect with others. However, child abuse doesn’t have to happen. With support, families can learn how to prevent abuse and reach out for help. You can learn more at Prevent Child Abuse America on what you can do to help families in your community
